Inpatient care

Psychological involvement in ward care aims to support patients during their stay in hospital. This may include psychological support, crisis intervention or even issue-focused counselling. The aim of the discussion may be to discuss issues relevant to recovery, to develop a recovery plan and to address specific, well-defined problems. Our role is also to provide support in the event of any distress, where we can help to build comfort or alleviate disturbing complaints through psychological methods and the presence of a professional.

A consultation with a psychologist may be required for a patient undergoing treatment in the ward (e.g. coming for an operation or an infusion). In addition, there are some phenomena that deserve attention (such as strong fears of surgery, treatment, the future or movement, depression, lack of motivation, etc.), which, if detected, may also lead to the initiation of psychological assessment/support by the treating staff.
