We welcome applications from patients with spinal disorders for a group psychotherapy with an analytical approach at the Psychological Clinic of the National Centre for Spine Disorders.
Long-term pain is a significant emotional burden that affects our daily lives and relationships. It is now well known that the tensions and conflicts of everyday life - especially relationship tensions - can provoke, reinforce and maintain pain. The correlation is also true in reverse: living with pain puts us and our relationships under stress. The aim of the group is to achieve a more harmonious, better quality of life, despite - or rather with - spinal pain, through a deeper understanding of ourselves and the above connections.
The group is ongoing from its inception, with members participating for at least a year, and then for as long as they feel it is useful to them. New members can be accepted until the maximum number of members is reached or after a member leaves.
Who is recommended to apply
- who have been living with intermittent or persistent pain for at least six months
- who cannot currently be helped surgically
- who have pain that is related to stress (stress makes the pain worse)
- who are able or want to learn to talk about their feelings and difficulties in front of others and to respond to the feelings of others
- who can commit to regular participation in the group
What are the benefits of participation
- by gaining a deeper understanding of the psychological components of pain, the frequency and intensity of painful flare-ups can be reduced, and in some cases pain-free conditions can be achieved
- reducing the burden of illness in important relationships (family, friends and work) or the lack of such relationships
- improved well-being through a sense of belonging and understanding
- in the case of pain that may be considered permanent, for example as a result of neurological damage, the psychological aspect of the pain, the experience of suffering, can be significantly alleviated
